Wage Theft Prevention Act Passed in New York

Posted on January 4th, 2011 No Comments

On December 13, New York Governor David A. Paterson signed the Wage Theft Prevention Act into law. The Act came about to rectify current failures by employes to pay minimum wage and overtime. The Act:

  • Requires annual wage notifications
  • Expands notifications
  • Strengthens protections offered to whistleblowers
  • Offers new solutions to wage law violations

The Act should offer these additional protections to New York workers to help ensure they are paid the fair wages they are entitled to by law.

Unfortunately, New York is unique in its crackdown against corrupt employers who cheat their workers out of proper wages. If you or someone you know has faced wage theft or has not been paid for overtime, the wage theft attorneys of Tycko & Zavareei LLP can help. To learn more, contact our offices at 202-973-0900.
